Waking up to the heady aroma of hyacinths - then realising when I packed away my Christmas decorations a few days ago, I'd forgotten about my snowmen!! These jolly looking fellows were bought many years ago from Spain, when I went there on a girlie holiday, and adorn my bowls of Christamas bulbs every year!

The quilt label for "Tis The Season" is completed too! These are really simple to make, and quilt labels really finish off a project beautifully. I always try to incorporate part of the design of the original quilt, and for this label one of the stitchery designs from the front of the quilt took my fancy! Then I added my name and the year. To make this label, I sketched out the idea on paper with a pencil first, then used a very fine Sharpie pen to draw over the pencil lines. Using a light box, the design is then traced onto fabric using a Micron Pigma pen with a very fine nib, and finally I've covered the traced lines with hand embroidery. I used the same Presencia Finca Perle 16 thread that was used for the hand embroidery on the front of the quilt. Following a good press, the label is hand appliqued to the back of the quilt.
I'm trying to finish up my outstanding projects before I start anything new, so here's my first finish of 2019. I'm taking part in an online challenge to finish 5 projects that are sitting patiently waiting in my "waiting to be completed" pile before the 1st May, so this has encouraged me to get this finished! Pattern is by the Australian designer Natalie Bird of The Birdhouse Patchwork Designs - this was bought as a kit from Cross Patch in Wales here in the UK and was started in Jan 2018, completed in Jan 2019. This was hand embroidered with Presencia Finca Perle 16 thread. Machine pieced with Aurifil 50wt thread, machine quilted very simply using a selection of King Tut variegated thread. Fabrics included in the kit are from the Rouenneries collection by French General for Moda. I took a final picture of the completed quilt "Tis The Season" this morning before I pack it away with my other festive quilts.
Tis The Season is finally quilted and the binding is on! This was purchased as a kit from Cross Patch in Wales back in 2017. This kit uses gorgeous fabrics from the Rouenneries collection by French General for Moda. The kit also included a spool of Perle thread for the hand embroidery. I've machine quilted this very simply using a selection of King Tut quilting threads shades 973, 946 and 972. A narrow single fold binding has been machined to the front of the quilt, and hand stitched in place to the back... ...this gorgeous fabric is from the "Rue Indienne" collection by French General for Moda, bought last year from Kis Quilting Ltd in Ipswich. It was perfect for the backing of my "Tis the Season" quilt. I love how the different collections from French General all work well together. I used a King Tut quilting thread shade 973 in the bobbin to blend with the fabric. The quilting was kept very simple, so it didn't distract from the beautiful fabrics. Now I just need to design and stitch a label for the back and I'll have my first finish for 2019.
I can't believe this is still on my "waiting to be quilted" pile. "Tis The Season" (by the Australian designer Natalie Bird from The Birdhouse Patchwork Designs) was started back in January 2018!! I'm trying to use up my HUGE collection of threads before I buy any more - so I've pulled out a few King Tut quilting threads that will match these gorgeous French General fabrics. (This was bought as a kit from Cross Patch in 2017, and the backing fabric was bought from Kis Quilting Ltd, in Ipswich, last year. I'm planning to spray baste this quilt using 505 spray, and it will be machine quilted quite simply. I've got a busy day ahead in my sewing studio - see you later!
I absolutely LOVE my Secret Santa gift that I received from a work colleague. Santa obviously knows me so well!! These beautiful sewing-themed wine glass charms by "Marian's Garden" were just perfect.
