I decided to make a simpler version of The Ultimate Travel Sewing Companion. This "Sewing Standard" fabric was just perfect for this project, teamed with some black and white spots. The original pattern is by Lynette Anderson Designs, and is embellished with hand embroidery and applique. This version is somewhat plainer, with a feature fabric for the main part of the outside of the companion... ...this version still has lots of plastic pockets, and is really useful for keeping all sorts of sewing accessories in, including my Apliquick rods, small perfect scissors, Clover thimbles and a few reels of Aurifil thread... ...a handy pocket for a small cutting mat, and pockets for Sewline glue pen and Sewline marking pens. These Clover Yo-yo makers all fit into the large plastic pocket too... ...zippers make sure that everything stays secure. I didn't add a strap for larger scissors or the appliqued woolfelt needle keeper to this version... ...this feature fabric has been in my stash for ages - I'd previously used some of it to make a large tote bag for taking to classes, and a small zippered pouch for keeping sewing bits and bobs in. I love mixing spots and checks and prints together, and the monochrome colourway showcases all the bright colours of the goodies inside... ...this was quilted very simply with white Aurifil 40wt thread in a crosshatch design. I used In R Form bag batting for making this, (bought from Empress Mills) and it's quilted really nicely. These simpler versions would make great gifts for my sewing friends!
