I've had a super time today, spending the day in someone else's sewing studio! My friend Denise and I had both booked on a class with Busybee Stitching and we were thrilled with our results! I was busy making a purse with lots of pockets, and Denise was making a quilt. Unfortunately quite a bit of deconstruction work was in order to get the batik trim on my purse flap looking right... ...perseverance paid off, and I'm absolutely loving this combination of teal linen and batik (both bought from KIS Quilting Ltd last year). I used a matching Aurifil thread for this project, along with a Schmetz size 70 Topstitch needle. I just needed a size 80 Topstitch needle to stitch the final layers at the sides together that holds the zippered pockets in place, as they were a bit bulky. Just wait until you see what's inside my new purse... ...there are pockets galore inside - including 2 zippered pockets, each lined with a stripey batik, and 12 pockets for loyalty/credit cards - perfect for shopping trips! There's even space in here for my mobile phone. And it's all held together with a magnetic clasp... ...I really was thrilled with the results, and I'll definitely make more of these in the future for gifts for special friends - now I just need to sort out some pretty fabric combinations and invest in a selection of heavier weight interfacings.
