Look what my lovely postman delivered while I was away on holiday - "Home, Family and Friends" by Lynette Anderson Designs. I'd ordered this from Patchwork Chicks here in the UK. This kit contains the pattern, fabrics, weaveline interfacing and all the embroidery threads needed to make this wall hanging. I used a lightbox, and a Pigma Micron pen to trace the design. The weaveline included in the kit was then fused to the back of the stitchery fabric... ...while I've been tucked up in bed with a heavy cold I managed to get some stitching done, and the applique too. This block is "Home" - I used the glue stick and applique paper method for these small pieces of applique... ...and before long I'd completed "Family" and "Friends" too. The rest of the project had to wait for a couple of days, until I felt well enough to use the sewing machine... ...sashing was added to the blocks and an inner border - then a piano key border was added to complete the front of the wall hanging. 2 rows of running stitch were then added to the inner border, using a red DMC embroidery thread, before the quilting was done... ...I used some Pellon felted polyester wadding, and spray basted the layers together with 505 spray. This was quilted very simply "stitch-in-the-ditch" with Aurifil quilting thread. One was my labels was machined to the back, and the binding was added - I used the single fold method of binding for this project, and slip stitched it into place on the back... ...and here is the completed wall hanging. I really enjoyed stitching this project - it certainly made my "sick days" go a bit quicker, as I hate feeling unwell, and get bored just sitting around doing nothing. I haven' t added a hanging sleeve onto the back of this yet, as I'm waiting until I've got the perfect hanger - then this can be hung in my sewing corner ;)
