Did you guess what what I'd added to the back of the Hearts Desire centre tabe piece that I shared a picture of yesterday? Well I was adding a final flourish! First of all I sketched a design onto paper, using a motif from the book With Needle and Thread (also by Natalie Bird) and added "stitched by..." freehand. Once I was happy with my final sketch the pencil lines were drawn over with a very fine black Sharpie pen to define it. I taped my homemade paper pattern to a lightbox to enable me to trace the design onto fabric using a very fine Micron Pigma pen nib size 005. I used the same Cosmo threads for the hand embroidery on the label that I'd used on the front, along with very simple embroidery stitches... ...the shape of the label was made using a Karen Kay Buckly Perfect Circle mylar template. It's a bit time consuming, but I think you'll agree the end results are well worth it. Anyway, here's the finished label, which has been hand appliqued into place. Measuring just 3.5" in diameter, it sits perfectly - I'll definately use this template again, especially as my next Poppy Patch Posse project is going to be a Natalie Bird Design too!
