Well I finally picked a project from that VERY long list of Australian kits that I'd shared here recently. This one is Hearts Desire, a pretty table centre piece designed by Natalie Bird of The Birdhouse Patchwork Designs. The kit was purchased last year from Poppy Patch and included the pattern, all fabrics including backing and binding and the wadding. Once the applique and hand embroidery were completed, it was machine quilted very simply. I selected a couple of Aurifil threads, in shade 2021 for the top and shade 2420 for the bobbin... ...the binding fabric strips were cut on the bias, as the outer edge was curved. Once the binding was machined into place, the binding was folded over and stitched to the back by hand. All of the applique was made using the Apliquick method and the centre octagon was made using English Paper Piecing. The hand embroidery was stitched with a selection of Cosmo embroidery threads... ...and here's the finished centre piece. This really is very pretty, as always Poppy Patch has put a lovely kit together. So one down - another twenty Australian kits to go! Oh and there's a little addition to the back of this too, which I'll share tomorrow!
