Although I'd already finished the last one a few days ago, I finally managed to get a picture of these all together. Indoor pictures are always a bit tricky, so I took this one in the garden this morning when it was -3° which was rather chilly! These patterns are all by The Birdhouse Patchwork Designs and were purchased a couple of years ago from Cross Patch. These were all embroidered with a selection of red embroidery threads, with more details on the individual posts.

Hexies... hexies... and more blasted hexies! I'm not keen on making hexagons, although I do like them hen they're finished. These ones were prepared using Hugs n' Kisses 3/4" pre-cut applique paper templates... ...this pattern is the Red Robin Runner by The Birdhouse Patchwork Designs and I'd originally bought this as a kit from the Cross Patch stall at FOQ back in 2017 - so I thought it was about time I set about making it... ...these hexie flowers took about an hour to make each one. Thank goodness there were only 18 of them. Now they just need to be appliqued onto an assortment of background squares.
Over the past few years, I've made several tablerunners using this design. The pattern is called Kle kjokkenet i 60-tallsdrakt by the Norwegian designer AnnAKa and it was published in the Norwegian quilting magazine, Quiltemagasinet, issue 04/2007. This one has been made using a selection of brown and cream fabrics, mostly batiks, that were left over from other projects. Once it was quilted (very simply in straight rows) Prairie Points are added to each end and a couple of buttons were stitched in place. I've made several more blocks to make a larger one for my dining table, but need to go through my boxes of fabric to see if I've got anything suitable for the backing, as I'm determined to use up the bulk of my supplies before I buy anything else!
Sometimes a simple project is best, as it lets the fabric really come into it's own. These eight blocks have been made using a selection of quilting cottons and batiks (all leftover from other projects including a quilt and a tuffet) and had been languishing in a box for a couple of years. Snow is forecast for the rest of the weekend, so I'm hoping to get a sewing day and get this completed.
How time flies! Was it really 10 years ago I was in snowy Norway on another quilting course with my favourite Norwegian designer AnnAKa? It doesn't seem like that long at all. The course was arranged by my friend Hanne, who owns Lappedilla in Bodø. This tablerunner is one of the projects I made while I was there, using a mixture of quilting cottons and batiks and 10 years later it's still being used.
I'd bought this pattern from Cross Patch a couple of years ago - the pattern is Snow Buddies by the Australian designer Natalie Bird of The Birdhouse Patchwork Designs - and I've been stitching it over the past few weeks. The pattern includes both a paper traceable pattern and a pre-printed calico panel, which is what I've used. The has then been hand embroidered using a variegated red DMC embroidery thread shade 115. It was then layered with a lightweight fusible wadding (Pellon H630) and machine quiltered very simply. I've used an assortment of red vintage buttons for trimming on the lower border. The final flourish was one of my "stitched by" labels which I've hand embroidered using white DMC thread directly onto the backing fabric.
I'd bought this pattern from Cross Patch a couple of years ago - the pattern is The Carolers by the Australian designer Natalie Bird of The Birdhouse Patchwork Designs - and I've been stitching it over the past few weeks. The pattern includes both a paper traceable pattern and a pre-printed calico panel, which is what I've used. The has then been hand embroidered using a red Cosmo embroidery thread shade 346. It was then layered with a lightweight fusible wadding (Pellon H630) and machine quiltered very simply. I've used a variety of different red fabrics for the "tongues" on the lower edge and added some tiny jingle bells to the embroidered Christmas tree. The final flourish was one of my "stitched by" labels which I've hand embroidered directly onto the backing fabric.
