No this isn't because of the snow or the freeeeezing cold temperatures this month, but I have borrowed the blog title and borrowed this picture from Janette's blog - she is the wonderful Longarm

Ages ago, one of my friends asked me if I could make a couple of these bags for her two daughters, and here they are - I chose my favourite AnnAKa pattern, Anna's Sminkepung, and my friend asked for black and white fabrics. I have used the same fabrics for both bags, but in a different layout..... .....I like using a fusible Pellon wadding for these bags, as it is semi-firm and keeps it's shape well. The larger bag has been quilted in a cross hatch design, and decorated with ric-rac and buttons..... .....I used a small tab at one end of the zipper so it is easy to undo, and can be hung up. As you can see, I used both black and white ric-rac, and different fabrics for each binding..... .....after machining into place, the zipper has been sewn on the wrong side of the bag by hand to keep it neat - I like finishing things off by hand, as I think it makes it extra special. I'm still adding a little flouish to my bags, by sewing one of my labels into the side seam - it says "made with the hand, given from the heart..... .....this is the larger bag completed - I'm really pleased with this one. it's a good size for make-up or toiletries..... .....the smaller bag has also been embellished, again with some rac-rac, but I also added some lace timming and appliqued a picture onto the front of this bag..... .....I wasn't sure if my friend's daughter would want one of my usual pictures of vintage lingerie, and girdles and stuff, so I chose this vintage advert for Maybelline make-up instead. I like the way the model is looking over her shoulder - very flirty!.... .....and here is the finished bag. Job done!! What do you think Suzanne? Will your daughters be pleased with them?? When my friend Eva came to stay with me in the summer of 2010, we had a great time together, including going on a couple of workshops with Lynette Anderson at my local quiltshop, Quilters Haven. (Didn't we all have a great time Eva - are you still busy stitching colonial knots??!!) All too soon our holiday had come to an end, and Eva returned to Norway just a few days before her birthday..... .....I wrapped up a very special present for her to take back to Norway because it was a very special birthday - and she was really excited when she unwrapped it - all the patterns and fabric to make "Friends for Christmas", a wonderful quilt designed by Lynette. Eva has spent the last few weeks busy stitching, and I have borrowed this photo from her blog to show you the finished quilt - it looks FAB!! One of my colleagues, Kirsty, was leaving work to take up a new post elsewhere, and I have been busy making her a leaving gift - another one of my toilettry bags, inspired by AnnAKa patterns. This time I used a picture from this website, Magic Moonlight, where you can download lots of free images ..... .....once again, I used the miracle sheets of fabric to print the picture onto - this is a great way to make a gift unique. I chose this picture to blend in with the colours of these Lecien fabrics that I chose for the rest of the bag..... .....the back of the bag is quilted in a cross-hatch pattern - you can see the grid lines that I have marked on the fabric with a Clover Hera marker..... .....the front section of the bag is quilted in exactly the same way..... .....the printed picture is then machine appliqued into place. I have still used the walking foot for this, and altered the needle position so it sews just inside the edge of the picture..... .....the lace trimming is attached at the same time as the binding for the zipper - this saves time and thread, and I used a few dabs of Roxanne Baste-it glue to hold the lace in position instead of pins..... .....you can see how I have hand-sewn the zipper to the inside of the bag so it lays flat. Oh and this time I added one of my labels inside the bag as a little flourish..... .....and here is the finished bag - perfect for make-up or toilettries. Job done!..... .....we all had a great time on Wednesday at Kirsty's leaving do - we had a meal at the Maybush Inn, Waldringfield - and I chose prawn and crayfish cocktail for starters. No piccie of the delicious smoked salmon fishcakes that I enjoyed for the main course - sorry!..... .....and I just managed to squeeze in this delicious pudding - chocolate fudge cake with cream - it really was yummy - very sweet and sticky! Oh, and you can click onto the pictures for a bigger look if you want to - that pudding really was DELICIOUS!! |
