I usually adorn my "special" quilts (the hand embroidered, hand appliqued ones) with a "special" label, also hand embroidered, reflecting the theme of the front of the quilt, using motifs from the same designer. I've been sketching a few ideas for a decorative label to stitch inside my Stitching Circle Basket which was designed by Lynette Anderson Designs. I decided on a circular label, to reflect the shape of the basket, and the central motif I used is from Lynette's book It's Quilting Cats and Dogs. The outer border also relects the decorative edge design that is used on the lid. Once I was happy with the pencil sketch, I used a fine Sharpie pen to go over the lines. The design is then traced onto a piece of fabric using a lightpad and a Micron Pigma pen. I've hand embroidered over the drawn lines using a selection of variegated Valdani threads in colours that were used for the embroidery on the lid of the basket... ...I've hand appliqued the label in place, on the inside of the lid. As the lid had already been constructed with both wadding and a firm piece of card, it was easier to use a fine circular needle for the applique.
