I really did have a great day out - thanks Nicola - it's great having you as a friend :)
Nicola had already booked a table at the Barn Cafe as it gets really busy - it's not surprising when you read the delicious menu! Anyway, while we were waiting for our lunch, I was showing Nicola one of my quilts-in-progress, and who should pop over to say hello, but my friend Pam Lugg - her husband had spotted the quilt and apparently said to her "oh look there's someone over there with a quilt" and she just had to have a look and realised it was me!!! So we all had a lovely chat - (sorry Pam's husband - hope you didn't mind too much!!) then lunch arrived - ohhhh it was yummy - I had plumped for the grilled goats cheese crumpets served on a rocket salad with a mango drizzle, and Nicola had the pork terrine with chutney and granary toast..... .....this was followed by the most DELICIOUS Tilapia, ginger and lemon fishcakes with a sweet chilli dip served with salad - as you can see we both had the same, washed down with a pot of tea (next time I'll get Mr F to drive us there Nic, then we can have a bottle of "that" hehe!!)..... .....and did we enjoy it? Well this picture says it all really!! We were both too stuffed for puddings today, (even with the most tempting looking desserts and cakes that you ever did see) but vowed to do puddings next time! We then had a look round the Farm Shop and The Old Piggery Pottery.
I really did have a great day out - thanks Nicola - it's great having you as a friend :)

I drove over to Framlingham on Saturday, and stopped off on the way at Wickham Market to get some bacon from Revetts, the butchers, and called in to Quilters Haven to see if there was some linen - there was only a couple of colours in stock, but luckily this parchment colour was just right - and then I saw some batiks that I thought would go with it really well - oh and I wasn't sure if I had the right colour quilting thread in my stash to go with this linen, so had to buy that too...... .....and then I trotted off to Framlingham - there is a market there every saturday. First stop was the bread stall..... .....the bread here is really very, very good. I bought some HUGE bread rolls to go with the bacon I'd bought earlier - this just shows a selection of the other yummy breads for sale..... .....I didn't buy any pecan pie this week, but I can assure you it is DELICIOUS! Yesterday my friend Jane took me out for lunch at the Suffolk Food Hall. I'd never been here before, but will DEFINATELY be going back again - it was fab!! .....there is a fishmonger, butchers, deli counter, fresh baked bread and fresh fruit and vegetables, coffee shop, restaurant ..... .....there was all sorts of yummy food on the menu (we had Flowton Eggs Benedict, followed by a HUGE slice of lemon cake - sorry no pictures - we gobbled it up too quickly!!) Thanks for a great day out Jane - it was just what I needed :) Eva and I spent the afternoon shopping in Otta. It was snowing and unfortunately we didn't see the beautiful blue sky that we had seen at the begiinning of my holiday..... .....inside this loverly haberdashery shop, there was a selection of National costumes (Bunad), and a wonderful selection of lace and ribbon and buttons. I bought some beautiful ribbons to use for decorating small makeup boxes and toiletry bags..... .....then it was off to the supermarket. There was an enormous array of cold meats..... .....and sausages..... .....and my favourite, brown cheese - this is delicious, especially when served with waffles. I was able to buy everything I needed to take home for a traditional Norwegian breakfast :) I'm writing this blog post all about my friend Eva!! She has just sent me some really exciting news - she has now got her own blog, "Evas Quilterom" so now I can follow her and keep up with all the beautiful things that she makes. This piccie was taken last summer when Eva came to stay with me - we really did have a great time together..... .....while Eva was here, we spent a couple of days on a workshop with Lynette Anderson over at my local quilt shop, Quilters Haven - Eva is really concentrating here - we were trying to master "Colonial Knots" - and if Lynette is reading this, yes we CAN remember how to do them - and we would both love to do another class with you hehe :) When Eva came to stay, she was the perfect house guest - she was quite happy to spend most of her holiday sewing, or going to quilt shops - and she bought me a lovely present too - a real proper Norwegian Waffle maker - here she is demonstrating how it works - my goodness those waffles were delicious..... Here's the Norwegian Waffle Maker in all it's glory - Eva even gave me her special recipe - they were just so crisp and yummy..... .....especially when they are served with blueberries and strawberries and extra thick double cream :) .....I first met Eva when I went to Norway for a holiday in November 2009 - I had gone to stay with my friend Hanne, and Eva was staying with her too - we got along really well (I am ashamed to say that my Norwegian was terrible and has not improved at all!!) and here is Eva, sitting in front of me - we were on a course with AnnAKa, making a Smykketeppe. About 4 years ago, my local quilt shop "Quilters Haven" ran a monthly programme called "Stash Pot Pie". Each month, some very enthuisiastic and excited quiters went along with fabrics from their stash to make a quilt - and this particular pattern was called "Queen of Tarts" and was taught by Karin Hellaby. This was one of my first "big quilts" that I made and it always reminds me of my favourite pudding, Lemon Meringue Pie, as it is so sharp and sweet..... I've added the words "sweet dreams" to one of the setting triangles - this was taken from a book by Nancy Halvorsen called "The Winsome Baby". I try to add stitchery to most of my quilts, sometimes on the quilt top, and sometimes on the reverse as a label - and now it has sort of become my "signature". When life deals you lemons.....make Lemon Meringue Pie!! This has to be my absolute favourite pudding - tangy sharp lemon, with sweet meringue topping - crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. You just can't beat home-made puddings, and a few simple ingredients turn from this... ...into this!! Delia would be proud of me. We had friends round for supper last night, and it proved to be a big hit. As you can see my friend Wendy thought it was delicious - and says when can she come round for supper again!!
The pattern and fabric kit for this tablerunner was sent to me from Hanne, and is called "Høstvarianter" (Variations of Autumn) it is a pattern by AnnAKa and I started this yesterday. This will look great on my dining table once it's completed. I really enjoy walking in the woods with the dog this time of year, all that "Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness" malarky is good for the soul, although today it's pouring with rain and blowing a gale, so I'm tucked up indoors with a cuppa and Alan Rickman (well, a girl can always dream. I'll just make do with the DVD Love Actually followed by Sense and Sensibility - a double dose of Alan - perfect!!) and the dog curled up beside me :) ..... ...this is what my garden looked like a couple of days ago in the autumn sunshine - although it doesn't look like this now, most of the leaves have blown off!! I've been doing my domestic-goddess bit in the kitchen and have got some left-overs to use up for lunch the remains of a home-made quiche and will make some leek and potato soup too as I'll need plenty of energy ready for an afternoon on the sofa with Alan !!!
