This month I was very organised for FNSI and had the fabric and trimmings for this project already prepared!! I managed to get the quilting done on this toiltry bag, and sewed on the lace trimming and sewed the zipper into place before it was time for bed. I was able to finish it off this afternoon - does Saturday Afternoon Sew-In count?? Friday 17th February is Friday Night Sew-In. Sign up over here and get your projects ready!! I did - I'm number 79! I've got my projects all ready - have you?? The Friday Night Sew-In is a virtual get together hosted by Heidi and her cousin Bobbi (aka Crafty Vegas Mom). They try to schedule the FNSI the 3rd Friday of each month. Here are the participation guidelines. 1. When the sign-ups are posted - add your name to the list with a link to your blog. 2. Make a post on your blog - letting all your readers know about the sew-in. Spread the word.. they could all use the virtual sewing support and encouragement. 3. On the night of the FNSI - Get your house settled, put on your comfy jammies..maybe make a cup of tea or pour a glass of wine.. and sit down to work on some of those projects. 4. Then, sometime on Saturday - publish a post about that you worked on.. show them a picture or two on Flickr. There is a FNSI group on Flickr if you haven't already joined. Totally optional. The name of the Flickr group is FNSI. Each month they giveaway something awesome to one lucky participant.. some times they select 2 people. A few months ago I made a runner, using the Høne Pøne pattern from Myquilt. I don't like throwing scraps away, and fortunately I had enough to make some matching placemats. This fabric is "Brooklyn Heights" by Kitty Yoshida for Benartex.... .....I just needed to add some more fabric for the background and binding, and managed to whip these up in no time at all. Sewing the binding on was the perfect project for FNSI, especially as I didn't get to go out with Mr F afterall - I spent a quiet night in with my sewing machine and the TV..... .....I based the design for the placemats on the tablerunner pattern. I just adore these appliqued birds. *Update for Lesley - these birdies are initially fused to the placemats with steam-a-seam lite, then machine-appliqued with a blanket stitch, #25 on my bernina - hope that helps!! Oh and I added a cute little button for the eyes - I couldn't cope with applique that small!! Friday January 20th is the date for the next Friday Night Sew-In - hop over here to sign up. I've been very organised this month and I've got my project all ready for Friday evening! I might not have time to sew much as I'm off out for a meal with Mr F, but will blog some pictures tomorrow of my latest project! OOOPS!! I had forgotten to post a picture of the FNSI project that I had been working on! I can't show you the completed bag yet, but here is a little sneaky peek - I can reaveal all when Christmas is over as it's a gift for my sister-in-law, and although I don't think she follows my blog, I don't want to tempt fate!! Anyway, I am so proud of this and think this is my best toiletry bag EVER!! It's FNSI - again!! Yes, there are two of them in December - perfect for catching up on all those last minute sewing projects! I've got lots of fabric already cut and ready use. Hop over here and sign up, and tomorrow I'll show you piccies of what I've made. 9 more sleeps to go - 9 more sleeps til Santa..... Well I had a very hectic Friday evening that I hardly had time to take part in the FNSI - firstly I dropped a colleague off on the way home from work, then I collected my daughter Alice from her job after school, called in to see a friend before supper (Hi Fran - was great to see you!) to collect a superb pressie for one of my sisters (more about that later) and then after a quick meal took my other daughter Beth to the railway station as she was off to stay with her boyfriend for the weekend. Honestly, talk about spinning alot of plates..... .....well, I couldn't NOT take part, so cut lots of strips of fabric for binding my quilts that Janette quilted so beautifully - firstly some aqua and white spotty Bliss fabric by Bonnie and Camille for my Layer Cake quilt. I just adore spotty bindings..... .....then I was slicing up Patisserie fabric by Fig Tree Quilts for my Tail Feathers quilt. I haven't blogged much about this one, but it really is so gorgeous it deserves a whole blog post all to itself. Now I've just got to attach the binding to the back, which I prefer to do by hand. Good job I've got a new thimble! It's that time again - yep, it's Friday Night Sew-In - when lots of like-minded crafty people spend the evening sewing. What projects are you trying to get finished this evening? Check my blog again tomorrow evening to see what I've been busy doing tonight. Well unfortunately I don't have very much to show you from yesterday's FNSI - as I went out yesterday evening to a Christmas shopping night at Wherstead Park, and by the time I arrived home I was exhausted and only managed to sew some binding on these placemats. I really love this range of fabric - "Countdown to Christmas" by Sweetwater for Moda. These were made from the left-over fabrics of some placemats I made a few weeks ago. That's another Christmas gift completed! |
