y 9 of the Declutter Challenge is all about my biggest weakness - threads! I have a huge collection of threads for both machine piecing and machine quilting, along with hand sewing threads. All of my threads are stored neatly in plastic containers, and I tend to machine piece with Aurifil. I keep bobbins with neutral threads for piecing in the storage box with my sewing machine that also stores my machine feet, but bobbins with other coloured threads are kept with the individual spool. I'd been gifted some threads which my Bernina was a bit fussy with, so they've been put in a bag for a local craft group (I must say that bag might have to be replaced with a bigger one soon) along with some decorative machine threads that I've had for ages and I know I'll never use. |
Then it was time to takle the hand sewing threads - which was an easier task than I thought it would be. Most of my hand embroidery threads are stored in specific storage boxes, for each brand, such as as Cosmo, DMC, and Valdani. Each collection of thread is then sorted by number, on individual thread cards, which makes it easier to find when I need a specific thread colour for a particular project. My beautiful Valdani perle threads are stored in a veryspecial handmade box, and after a quick peek at them, they were put back on the shelf. I had a large bag of assorted hand embroidery threads which had been given to me several years ago, and I know I'll never get round to using them out, so they were also added to that bag for the craft group - I'm sure they'll have fun sewing with them!
