Day 10 of the Declutter Challenge is about tools again - today it's our needles and pins! I keep a small spice jar by my sewing machine where I store all broken and blunt machine needles, bent pins and blunt hand sewing needles. When it gets full, it's sealed tightly shut, and disposed of safely. I only buy Schmetz sewing machine needles, and have a selection of types and sizes - the ones I use regularly - Scmetz Microtex size 60 and 70, and Schmetz Topstitch needles size 70 and 80 are bought in bulk from Barnyarns which is based here in the UK. I keep a couple of small packs of needles in the storage box that came with my sewing machine (along with a few bobbins and sewing machine feet) and the rest are are stored in a small storage tin, within easy reach of my machine. |
I tend to dispose of my pins regularly, as soon as they become dull or bent - it's impossible to pin fabric accurately with bent pins. Even so, a quick sort through my pin tin still found a few culprits that needed to be got rid of!
