I love making personalised labels for my quilts. This label is for my Fernhill quilt - pattern by Lynette Anderson Designs - I played around with a few images from Lynette's original pattern and added my own words. Once I was happy with the layout, I wrote over the pencil lines with a very fine Sharpie pen... ...this quilt was hand embroidered using Weeks Dye Works embroidery threads, and I used some of the left over threads to embroider the label... ...once the stitching was finished, it was pressed on the wrong side (this prevents the stitches from being flattened) and the label was appliqued by hand onto the back of the quilt. I just need to add a hanging sleeve, and it will be ready to display.

A few weeks ago I'd prepared some stitchery to take with me when I was in hospital. I'd pieced together some leftover scraps from my Journey of a Quilter quilt, and used a pattern "Waverley Bag" by the Australian designer Leanne Beasley... ...the daisies are appliequed by hand, and the hand embroidery uses 2 strands of DMC embroidery thread. This was machine quilted very simply around the daisies and arpund the blocks using Aurifil 40wt thread... ...I like to keep the zipper covered, and used 2 different Tilda fabrics to make the cushion backing. Once the front and back of the cushion have been stitched together, the raw edges are covered with a binding strip, using the same method as binding a quilt... ...and here's the completed cushion, filled with a plump feather pad, ready to post off to it's new owner. I hope she'll be pleased with it!
Here are a few close-ups of the amazing quilting on my Fernhill quilt. I really am very pleased with this and can't wait to hang it on the wall of my sewing studio! The pattern for this gorgeous quilt "Fernhill" is by Lynette Anderson Designs. This was bought online as a kit from Cross Patch in Wales back in April, and has been an absolute joy to stitch. It was machine pieced with Aurifil 50wt thread, hand embroidered with Weeks Dye Works threads and hand appliqued. I chose to have it freehand custom quilted by J-Quilts. Hand painted wooden buttons are the final touch which I stitched into place yesterday evening, and a single fold binding was finished this afternoon. I just need to add a hanging sleeve and a handmade label. Finished size is 28" x 28" - I absolutely loved making this one. It will look super hanging on the wall of my sewing studio!
Fernhill, designed by Lynette Anderson Designs, has been given some very special treatment by Janette at J-Quilts, and was waiting to be collected. Janette does the most AMAZING freehand custom quilting, and I was really very very pleased with this cute wallhanging. Once the binding and buttons are all stitched in place and the label is done, I'll share some more pictures.
These quilt tops, "Journey of a Quilter" and "Leanne's House" have both been with J-Quilts, the amazing longarm quilter, having some very special treatment! (Patterns for both of these gorgeous quilts are by the Australian designer Leanne Beasley and were bought online as BOMs from Cross Patch in Wales. Julia does the most AMAZING kits!) I can't wait to collect them later, and see the amazing quilting as always.
I haven't shared any recent quilting projects on my blog as for the padt 3 weeks I've been on a grand adventure with Mr F to New Zealand! We've had an amazing time, and best of all we were able to spend time with our daughter who has been out there travelling since June. We visited some incredible places, met some wonderful people and saw some amazing scenery - mountains and lakes and rivers - it was all so fantastic! While we were away it was my birthday, and I celebrated by paddling in the Pacific ocean. We finally arrived home on Saturday evening, exhausted but happy. It won't be long before I'm back in my sewing studio creating lots of new projects inspired by my travels!
Janette, the wonderful longarm quilter at J-Quilts, is halfway through freehand custom quilting my Journey of a Quilter quilt, so here's another update for you! This project really was a delight to stitch and I love this sentiment so much.
Janette (J-Quilts, my favourite longarm quilter) has completed my "Leanne's House" quilt, and has already loaded up my "Journey of a Quilter" quilt (also by the Australian designer Leanne Beasley, amd also bought online as a BOM from Cross Patch in Wales). Her freehand custom quilting really is amazing and I'm really looking forward to seeing what designs she decides to use for this quilt! Janette has put more pictures on Instagram if you want to see her progress with this pretty quilt!
