A few weeks ago I had an email from a lady who I knew through quilting, Lesley Mcdonald, and she told me she'd been to a longarm quilter to get one of her quilt tops completed, and had I heard of J-Quilts - well, I hadn't, so Lesley sent me the details, and today I went off on a jaunt to East bergholt to meet Jeanette the longarm quilter. Janette spent a long time with me discussing colours of thread to use, types of wadding, and the overall dedsign to be used on each individual quilt. I forgot to take my camera with me so I couldn't get any pictures today, but believe me when I say Janette's work is FAB-U-LOUS - her studio is divine, (and can you believe this Heather that she has even more spools of thread than I do!!) and she has some amazing quilts on display. I am so excited to think what she will do with mine..... .....I took a grand total of FOUR quilts over to Janette - firstly there was this very simple quilt made with a layer cake (Bliss by Bonnie and Camille for Moda), that I'd added a couple of stitchery verses to. I bought both the backing fabric and the wadding for this quilt from Janette too..... .....then there was this batik quilt that I had made about 3 years ago and never actually got around to quilting myself - I'd already bought the backing fabric from Quilters Haven ages ago, a very deep purple batik..... .....this appliqued and stitchery quilt "Butterfly Garden" (pattern by Leanne Beasley) - I bought a beautiful Benartex soft green floral extra-wide fabric from Quilters Haven for the back of this one, and bought the wadding from Janette that she advised..... .....and finally my "Tail-Feathers" quilt, another one with lots of applique and stitchery (pattern by Natalie Lymer) - again, the extra-wide quilt backing was from Quilters Haven - this time Luna Notte in cream by 3 Sisters for Moda. Janette was really helpful in advising which wadding and which quilting design would work best for each quilt - I can't wait to see how Janette will make these quilts will come to life!

A few weeks ago I wrote about a fabulous book that I had bought, Tilda's Studio - and a Norwegian blogger (hei hei Hanne) very kindly offered to send me a Tilda kit! So I decided to post a picture of my Tilda book collection to show her..... .....Christmas, Pretty and Sunny Homestyle books, along with my newest addition Tilda's Studio..... .....Crafting Christmas and Springtime Gifts (Crafting Crhistmas was my very first Tilda book - I quickly became addicted to them!) and Summer Ideas..... .....even Tilda's Friends and a Tilda Characters boxed set..... .....now you must understand I haven't actually MADE any of the things in these books but I HAVE been inspired to give some cushions the "Tilda" touch and added some Tilda stitchery to these ones.....) .....anyway look what arrived in the post all the way from Norway - this fabulous kit from Hanne - a cute tin to keep pencils in and some Tilda ric-rac..... .....everything is here in the kit to make a cute Tilda Santa with his reindeer! Now I really haven't got any excuse to make a Tilda project - looks like I'm going to be very busy! Thankyou very very much Hanne! Now I'm off for a cuppa and to browse through my lovely Tilda books :) Well the sad day finally arrived. I had completely exhausted my stash of this gorgeous fabric "Simplicity" by 3 Sisters for Moda. I only had enough scraps for the front of a make-up bag, so armed with a cunning plan to use different scraps for the binding, I added some white tone-on-tone fabric for the back and the lining and set to work. I matched the colour thread to the fabric that I quilted in straight rows..... .....and here it is - my very last Simplicity bag. Oh dear - now I'll have to search for another range of fabric that catches my eye - oh dear how terrible - better go shopping! Yes I know it's a day late and Halloween was yesterday, but I couldn't resist showing you a picture of Winnie the Witch - she's filled with cloves and smells lovely..... .....I also wanted to show you this funky fabric that I recently bought from Fancy Moon called "The Ghastlies". From the Haunted House Collection by Alexander Henry, The Ghastlies are a strange and creepy family of witches and oddballs with a big forbidding house, bats around the belfry, and a graveyard in the garden!..... .....and I also bought this gorgeous fabric from Fancy Moon too - from the Poppy Collection by Timeless Treasures featuring images, articles and advertisements from English newspapers of the 1920’s through to the 1950’s printed right across the fabric. What's that? What am I going to make?? You don't really expect me to cut this beautiful fabric and actually USE it do you??!! |
