While I was away last week on a quilting retreat I also managed to get the next batch of star blocks made, that form part 3 of the Kate quilt. These are made up of 13 Sawtooth star blocks and 5 Missouri star blocks. These will eventually be pieced together once a variety of star blocks have been made, so once they've been pressed they'll be stored in a block keeper to keep them safe, as it may be a while before the rest of the blocks are finished!

While I was away last week on a quilting retreat in Yorkshire, I was able to make a start on this gorgeous kit - the pattern is Kate, by Carrie Nelson of Miss Rosie's Quilt Co, and has been made using a selection of fabrics from the Rosewood collection by 3 Sisters for Moda. The first 2 blocks pictured below form part 1 - these are 12.5" blocks, and each block is comprised of 61 pieces... ...thankfully there aren't QUITE so many pieces in the large blocks that form part 2. These 4 blocks will eventually be joined together to form the centrepiece of the quilt, and will be surrounded by a border of quarter triangle square blocks.
I've just returned home from the BEST week away, staying at Wold Escapes in Yorkshire. A group of quilters (some of us have been going since 2012) spend our week away with lots of sewing, chatting, delicious meals and great company. Although most of us only meet up once a year, it feels like it was only a couple of weeks ago that we were last there. A couple of us go for early morning walks to start our day, and we're never disappointed by the stunning scenery that surrounds the B and B where we stay. We were all so very well looked after, and yes, we've booked to go again next year! Once I've unpacked my sewing bags, I'll share some pictures of the blocks I that I stitched - and I managed to sew far more than I expected, which means I wasn't chatting away quite as much as usual!
I'm off to Yorkshire tomorrow, for a week on a quilting retreat. My sewing bag is packed with a couple of projects, including this kit which I purchased back in 2019. The pattern is Kate, by Carrie Nelson of Miss Rosie's Quilt Co, and uses these gorgeous fabrics from the Rosewood collection, by 3 Sisters for Moda. I'd bought this from KIS Quilting Ltd after seeing it made up by one of their customers, it really did look fabulous - I just hope mine will look as good! I've had a little peek at the instructions, and there are lots and LOTS of star blocks to make, so I'm hoping to get the centre portion cut out and pieced together, and any other blocks will be a bonus!
Another very old kit that has been tucked away in my sewing studio is finally making an appearance! I needed to prepare a hand sewing project ready for a quilting holiday, and couldn't resist making a start on the first block. This pattern is called Many Thanks, and the book was included with this kit that I'd purchased way back in 2005. It's definitely the oldest kit on my VERY long list - so it was about time I made a start on it... ...the first block has been hand appliqued using the Apliquick method, although I might practise my needleturn applique for some of the other blocks. This has also been hand embroidered, on the snowman's face and tassels on the scarf. These 2 heart buttons are from my own button collection and will be stitched in place when the quilt is finished. Unfortunately the Art to Heart buttons that were used in the original quilt weren't supplied in the kit, ans are probably no longer available, however I'm planning to substitute the larger buttons with more applique!
