Here is the first project that I completed on a quilting course last week with Philippa Naylor. We were focusing on free-motion quilting, and I started with some background quilting in a fine sewing thread to blend in with the colour of the fabric. I used a pale green batik for this, then quilted some more flowers using a thicker quilting thread - this one is a YLI variegated quilting thread...
...and this is what it looks like once all the quilting has been completed. I then completed the journal cover, using a tutorial by Roslyn Mirrington, and added narrow strips of batik to bind the raw edges. An A5-sized notebook was then slipped into place...
...these pictures show firstly the front of the journal cover, and secondly the back of the cover. These are quite simple to make and can be embellished with a range of threads and beads and trimmings. I made some of these last year using applique techniques that I'd learnt with Philippa too, and these would make very good gifts, as they're pretty as well as being useful.
Hi - welcome to my quilting blog! My passions are my family, my dog, my friends and sewing, not necessarily in that order!
