This packet of fabrics arrived in the post the other day from Myquilt, in Norway - I'd already bought the pattern, Høne Pøne, and really liked this modern table runner. The fabric is "Brooklyn Heights" by Kitty Yoshida for Benartex.... .....I quickly made a start on putting the runner together - now I just needed to get some backing fabric. That meant a shopping trip unless maybe I could find something in my stash :)..... .....well, I couldn't find anything suitable in my stash so this is the fabric I bought for backing the Høne Pøne table runner - it's from the "Sew Chick" range, for Benatex. Oh and by the way Heather - I didn't have the right colour thread either so had to buy another reel - King Tut variegated dark grey..... .....as this runner was quite a contemporary design, I wanted to quilt it in a simple pattern, and straight-row quilting seemed to look right for this..... .....topped off with some appliqued birds (machine button-hole applique) complete with cute little black buttons for eyes..... .....this design will look super on any dining table, and I really enjoyed making this one, although I've got far more table runners than I could possibly use!! I really must think about selling some of my work!

Last weekend one of my work colleagues (another Nicky!) came to have a sewing lesson - I forgot to take a photograph of her finished bag, but this is one I made after she left using the same fabric - it's by Lecien and I have had this fabric for absolutely AGES. The pattern is based on "Til Makeup" by AnnAKa and is another of my favourites..... .....we had a great time - we went out for lunch before the sewing lesson, and she was allowed a bit of a cuddle with Jasper too. When I arrived at work on Monday, she had bought me this beautiful orchid to say thank you for introducing her to quilting :) I've just used up the last scraps of Celebrate Spring by Sandy Gervais for Moda - thanks Josie for letting me know what collection these fabrics were from - it's surprising how far a little bundle of four fat eighths can go :) This is another bag based on the pattern "Sminkepunger" by AnnAKa. A few weeks ago my friend Heather came round for a sewing-fest and we popped over to Quilter's Haven. Heather bought one of these Bliss Layer Cakes, and the very next day I decided that I just NEEDED to have one too :) so popped back over there to get one for myself - I'm sure Mr F would never have moved here if he'd realised how near to a quilting shop we'd be..... .....I've sewn 36 of the squares together in a six-by-six layout, and added some stitchery on a couple of the squares. This lovely stitchery design is from "The Journey of a Quilter" pattern by Leanne Beasley..... .....this will be quilted very simply - not sure yet whether in a cross-hatch design or lots of straight row quilting. Hmmm - what do you think? Last night we finally brought home this little bundle of mischief - don't be fooled by those big soulful eyes - last night he howled and whined and cried - you've never heard such a hullabaloo!! My daughter Alice spent the night on the floor in a sleeping bag beside him and this morning they were BOTH asleep in the sleeping bag! Which I suppose is better than them both being asleep in his cage..... .....anyway, he's had a good time this morning, running around with all his new toys and sniffing everything and playing chase-my-tail-and-try-to-bite-it and lots of other puppy games. He really is the most adorable little thing!! Hopefully I'll soon get back to sewing and quilting and normal service will be resumed on my blog! It wouldn't be Sunday without a visit to see the puppies - and it was amazing to see how much they'd grown AGAIN in just a week - and they were so full of energy, it was hard to get them to keep still for the obligatory photoshoot! Jasper was so wriggly - here he is trying to lick Rachel (she's holding his sister, Teal, who was much better behaved)..... .....doesn't he look cute? He comes home with us next week - better lock all those fabrics and threads out of the way - oh and shoes and bags and quilts and books and - need I go on? After making these bags yesterday for this givaway, I decided that I NEEDED a small bag too, to put my own sewing things into when I go to classes - you know, all those bits-and-bobs and thingammy-doo-dahs that normally live in a BIG box at home. Here's a better picture of putting the zipper in, I really do find that using a walking foot makes it so much easier. This time I added some ric-rac along the edge of the binding..... ....and here is the finished bag. It's about 10inches x 6 inches and just the right size for going to classes - you know when you don't want to take EVERYTHING with you, just some needles and pins and scissors and thread and a rotary cutter and a pencil and thimble and a few more reels of thread and a spare bobbin or two or three.....hmmm I think that's enough ;) Oh and if you're reading this Mara - the fabric is from Anjays Fabrics in Woodbridge and I've got about a fat eighth left - do you want it? I thought this fabric would be ideal for some small bags to keep sewing bits-and-bobs in. Yes, I'm putting the zipper in with the walking foot - I think this is much easier than using a zipper foot when I'm sewing through lots of layers..... .....this is a bit taller than originally planned, but it'll soon get filled with sewing goodies, as it's for a giveaway..... .....and here are some more that I made earlier! |
