Do you remember the "Beyond Measure" sewing machine mat (pattern by Bloom) that I made a few weeks ago? Well I used some gorgeous sewing themed fabric, and had enough left-over to make a zippered bag to keep my smaller sewing things in, like my thread snippers and spare needles and a reel of thread etc. I added one of my "Quiltystuff" labels to a piece of fabric, and sewed it to side of the zipper to use as a tab. I used an AnnAKa pattern, called "Anna's Sminkepung" and quickly stitched up this bag last weekend. I like to alter these patterns using whatever size fabric pieces I've already got, so for those of you who like to know the size is important, this one measures 11" long and is 6" in height. AnnAKa patterns are available form quilt shops in Scandinavia, and there are links to some of these shops on the side bar of my blog - sorry, but despite numerous requests, I am unable to supply copies of these patterns!..... .....oh and do you remember the fabric divided basket (pattern by Noodlehead) that I make to keep my sewing things in? Well it really wasn't working for me. So I did a bit of unpicking (NOT my favourite pastime!) and removed the divider. I re-joined the lining, and attached it using a different method to the original Noodlehead pattern, which gave me a much neater edge along the top. (The first time I made this basket, I had a real problem keeping my top stitching neat, and thought Pfffttttt!! this is no good - and used a zig-zag stitch instead. Well, this time I re-did it stitching very slowly, and the 2 rows of top stitching look MUCH better). Oh and I put my label inside the lining this time too!! As you can see, I've got a very smart, co-ordinated set of sewing accessories now! My sewing table will look very suave ;)

Do you remember last week I made a fabric basket for all my sewing bits and bobs? Well I really needed to make another one, for a very special little girl. I couldn't resist this cute fabric covered with little owls, and teamed it with a pink and white spotted fabric and a touch of turquoise for the binding and lining. I made a few changes to the original Noodlehead pattern - I omitted the divider, and altered the way that I attached the lining too. I used a Mettler white quilting thread for all the top stitching, as it keeps it looking bright and fresh...... .....what do you think? This is for Erin (my great-niece) to keep some of her bits and bobs and books in - and it is soft enough for her to carry around, because she's only little. Hopefully Erin and her mummy will like this basket as much as I do - it's going to be very tricky to give this one away!!
*Updated in thee afternoon to show you this picture of Miss Erin...she loved her basket!! A few days ago I finally took the plunge and downloaded this great pattern from Noodlehead - I had seen lots of divided baskets on Flickr made with this tutorial, and especially liked the ones that Amy had made, so gathered some fabrics together and set about making one for me. I used the same fabric that I used for the "Beyond Measure" sewing machine mat and thread catcher - at least my work space will look co-ordinated when I'm in full swing creating lots of other crafty stuff - and I added some dark grey striped corduroy too, that I thought would give the basket a bit more structure. I changed the design slightly, and rather than use a separate binding for the front pocket, I cut the lining a bit bigger and turned the top edge over double, and top-stitched it into place.......... .....I bent more than just a few pins whilst I was pinning all the layers together along the top edge - this caused me a few problems, probably as the corduroy was a bit too thick for this project - I think using pellon wadding and interfacing AND corduroy was just a bit too much! Next time I'll just use 100% cotton, and try using Clover Wonder Clips to hold all of the layers together. Well here it is - one divided basket to keep all my sewing bits and bobs in. And finished with one of my "Quiltystuff" labels too. Overall I'm really pleased with this basket. Now I've got no excuse for my work space being untidy when I'm sewing!
