OK so here is the project that I decided to start last night as part of FNSI. I've got lots of things started and had made a challenge to finish at one project before |i start another - but then I couldn't decide which one to pick and I WAS going to collect a quilt from the longarm quilter so technically that WAS a completed project (I know I need to get the binding on, but I have a cunning plan to spend Saturday afternoon binding it while Mr F and the hairy hound are out on a shoot!!) so anyway I had a rummage in my stitchery project-box and this Leanne Beasley pattern was calling out to me. I bought this "Sew Laugh Love" kit back in November 2011 from Quilt Fabric Delights, and it came with the pre-printed handkerchief linen and several skeins of Cosmo thread that are just wonderful to sew with! I can't believe I had put it away with lots of other kits and never got around to actually stitching it!! So I quickly set to and wound the threads on those little cardboard bobbins, and I was ready to get my needle threaded..... .....well as you can see I dithered about for so long binding those Cosmo threads onto those blasted little cardboard bobbins that I didn't actually get around to doing very much sewing at all!! Well at least I've got everything prepped and ready - hopefully by next month's FNSI I'll be a bit more organised!!

OK so hop over here and sign up if you want to join in with Friday Night Sew-In. You'll have to be quick, as it's being hosted tonight! I've got some projects ready, and a bottle of wine chilling in the fridge and some nibbles too. The trouble is, I've got so many things on the go that I don't know which project to chose! I'll post some pictures on my blog on Saturday, so come back then and see how creative I've been! Well not an awful lot happened on Friday evening for FNSI, as I spent ages sorting through fabric deciding what to make, and the evening had nearly ending and I still hadn't stitched anything! I just managed to make a start on this stitchery kit "Hope, Love and Friendship" by Rosalie Quinlan. I'd actually bought this kit and blogged about it a year ago!! Sorry I didn't have time to post the picture yesterday as planned, but I had friends round for some sewing and chatting - but I'll keep you up to date with my progress on this stitchery kit!!
Yes it really is that time of the month AGAIN!! This Friday is Friday Night Sew-In and if you go over to Heidi's blog you can sign up for this virtual get together! Then don't forget to check back on Saturday to see what projects I have completed. And there is a Flickr group you can join too, to show off your work and be inspired by the other members of the group. Now I must get my projects sorted out ready for Friday night! Yesterday was Friday Night Sew-In and I had the perfect project to complete. I had already stitched the centre panel of this runner, and had picked a turquoise DMC embroidery thread to use for the stitchery. This embroidery thread co-ordinates perfectly with the fabrics that I was going to use for the border. I had already got a Charm Pack in my stash, and decided to use that. So last night I cut the Charm Squares into quarters. This fabric range is "It's Snowing!" by Debs Strain for Moda..... .....I've chosen some Christmas themed fabric from my stash for the backing, called "Winterscapes" for Benartex. Now I just need to get this runner quilted and get the binding on as it is part of a Secret Santa Swap that I am taking part in. These colours are really funky and modern, not all traditional and typical of Christmas - hope my swapee will like it! *Update: I have been asked about the stitchery pattern - it is called "Festive Season" and is designed by Annie Downes, whose website is "Hatched and Patched". It's that time of the month again - and I've got my stitching project all ready for this evening. Alice has gone out baby-sitting for a neighbour, and Mr F is working a night shift, so I've got the evening to myself to stitch away the hours. Anyway, hop over here to sign up - there's still time - and I'll post some pictures of my new project on here tomorrow ;) Well although FNSI at the Foreman household was very productive, it was really more like FNCI - Friday Night Cut It!!! I dithered over what project to finish and eventually decided to start a new one!!! In fact I dithered about so much that I didn't even get my sewing machine out at all, so I'm not really sure if the reveal counts! I decided to cut up my beautiful Tonga Treats - 2 packs of 40 pre-cut 10" squares of Tonga batiks, that I bought from Glenroy Designs a few weeks ago. The colourway is called Mango Salsa and it is gorgeous - vibrant oranges and corals and yellows and soft creams all in my favourite batiks - yummy! I pulled out this book for inspiration - "Schnibbles Times Two" by Carrie Nelson..... .....after a couple of hours of pressing fabric and layering lots of squares and slicing, slicing and more slicing, I was left with some very neat piles of batiks all ready to piece together to make another "McGuffey" quilt (and having a really large rotary cutter like this one helps with cutting out lots of layers together)..... .....and a very tidy pile of trimmings from all the slicing up that I'd done!! (Oh and by the way - I've got great plans for using up the leftovers from preparing the strips for this quilt - this really is all the waste there it!) Unfortunately I was just too tired to get it together last night, so I've left it in a project box ready for next month. Unless I get bored over the weekend of course, and then it might get put together a bit quicker! Oh my goodness - how time flies!! it's that time of the month again, and I haven't taken part in the Friday Night Sew-In for absolutely ages - and I've got so many projects on the go I don't know which one to crack on with first!!! If you hop over here you can sign up too - anyway, I'll be stitching away tonight (even better Mr F is working a night shift so I can sew away until the early hours without getting told off!!) and maybe have a glass of wine too - only the one, as I don't want any wonky stitches or seams!! And then tomorrow I'll show you piccies of what I was busy stitching! Last night was July FNSI - and as usual I had the perfect project in mind! In the previous issue of the Norwegian quilting magazine "Quiltemagasinet", there was an AnnAKa pattern for a table runner using "Secret Garden" fabric, by Lynette Anderson for Lecien. If you remember, back in November 2011, Lynette very kindly sent me some of this beautiful fabric to play with! I had sent some of it to my friend Eva, and I have made several runners and LOTS of bags with this fabric and just have a little bit left - so I set too with planning and cutting and stitching away my Friday night. This Lecien fabric sews together so well - and these muted shades are a pleasent change from the brights that I normally opt for. The design is called "Sommerstitchery", unfortunately we've not had much of a summer yet, due to so much rain! Anyway, once the runner was sewn together..... .....then it was time to get busy with the stitchery. I taped both the pattern and the fabric onto the window using masking tape, and then I traced the design using a pigma pen. This floral design was stitched with a variegated thread, DMC shade 53. I didn't get time to finish the runner, but I'm really pleased with my progress so far. Maybe I'll get this finished at next month's FNSI!! OK so I know I've been very busy sewing lots of projects, but I've not taken part in the Friday Night Sew-In for months now - well all that's about to change, because FNSI is happening on Friday 13th July and I have got a PILE of projects to get completed - sign up over here and check my blog on Saturday to see what I've managed to sew on Friday night :) |
