No, it's not actually me that's having a jolly jaunt at the sea-side, but I have taken my Bernina along for a summer holiday at the Felixstowe Sewing School, that provides servicing and spa treatments for sewing machines. I'm off on a week-long quilting holiday later this month with Philippa Naylor, and need to have my machine in tip-top condition, so I've left my machine to have a bit of a pamper! I'll be machine-less for a few days, but thank fully I've prepped some hand-sewing instead so I don't miss my Bernina TOO much!

FOQ has just about EVERYTHING a quilter could want to feast her eyes on! fabric, threads, notions, quilts - and SEWING MACHINES! There was a wonderful selection of sewing machines on display this year. As my blog followers know, I'm a Bernina babe, and this year there was an exciting new arrival - the Bernina longarm. Sadly I didn't get a chance to try it out! Anyway, here are some pictures of all the wonderful sewing machines that were on display at FOQ - and although they all looked superb, I'm staying faithful to my Bernina - much to Mr F's relief!! (Ohh and by the way, I had coffee one morning with Lynette and a VERY nice lady from the Bernina stand, and she was wearing a super lanyard - which gave me and Lynette a great idea, and I'll share that with you in few days!!)
My Bernina sewing machine has been feeling a bit poorly recently - maybe because it is used so much!! Anyway, with a planned leave of absence due to a holiday in Norway, I decided to give my sewing machine a real treat, and arranged for it to have a full service whilst I was away admiring the fjords. I duely dropped it off at my local quilt shop, Quilters Haven, and the wonderful Mr Woods (he's also known as "The Bernina Man") worked his magic - anyway, my wonderful Bernina has now been returned, fully serviced, and with a new lease of life, and is now purring away merrily while I'm sewing. Now then - what can I make next?? Yahooooo - the new foot pedal for my Bernina sewing machine arrived in the post during the week so I can get back to sewing and quilting again - I think Mr F was secretly pleased that I couldn't use my sewing machine for a few days as it meant the dining table actually LOOKED like a dining table rather than a "craft centre and hive of activity" and there were no pins or needles or scraps of fabric all over the afore-mentioned table or on the floor or on the chairs! Why is it that even if there is a single pin on the floor, clever Mr F always manages to find it by stepping on it??!! Now, I'm just bursting with inspiration, so I need to get out my cutting board and rotary cutter and a little bit of fabric, and I'll be in heaven!
Well this is just how I looked this morning. Four days off work for the Easter holidays and a host of sewing projects to tackle - so what would make me look so glum? A loose wire in the foot pedal of my Bernina! So what's a girl to do? Ohhh - a bit of online shopping to order a new one, and a quick call to my local quilt shop to get my Bernina booked in for a long-overdue service (I have been taught well by Annie, at Quilters Haven, about keeping it regualrly cleaned and well oiled) and when I get back from my hols in Noway it will be waiting for me, as good as new again! And as for the rest of the holidays?? Well, a clean and tidy home - no threads or pins or scraps of fabric to litter the floor, and quality time spent with my girlies. Hmmm - although I could do just a little bit of hand sewing hehe :) Now, please excuse me while I go and make a cuppa, sort out some embroidery threads, and sit down for a relaxing afternoon with some stitching! |
